Rebecca Warburton, PhD

Rebecca Warburton obtained a B.A., Economics, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, 1975 an M.Sc., Economics, London School of Economics, London, UK, 1980 and a Ph.D., Economics, University of London, London, UK, 1995. Professor Warburton is a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Scholar, conducting research into the costs and benefits of patient safety and quality improvement initiatives at the Vancouver Island Health Authority. Dr. Warburton is interested in the use of research evidence to inform public policy and improve the delivery of health care and other government services. She joined the University of Victoria’s School of Public Administration in 1999. She is a health economist, and worked for the British Columbia provincial government from 1982 to 1997. Her government experience included two years at Treasury Board staff, and 13 years at the Ministry of Health, working in both policy and research positions. From 1998 to 2000, she served as the Oak Bay representative on the CRD’s Liquid Waste Management Plan Public Advisory Committee.
