{"id":392,"date":"2010-08-31T21:24:00","date_gmt":"2010-09-01T04:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/maritimeawards.ca\/blog\/?page_id=392"},"modified":"2016-04-07T21:21:48","modified_gmt":"2016-04-08T04:21:48","slug":"forums","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/maritimeawards.ca\/blog\/?page_id=392","title":{"rendered":"Forums"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Public Forums<\/h2>\n<p>With a view to broadening the interest and membership in the society, as well as to increase general public awareness of maritime affairs and oceans issues, it was decided in 1994 to initiate a series of public fora and workshops. The first of these was mounted in 1995 and a second a year later, both at the University of Victoria. Subsequently, through workshops beginning in 2000 MASC has become recognized by governments and industry as an apolitical organization with the capacity to organize and promote expert interaction and public debate on current topics of major maritime importance. In addition to those already conducted, a number of topics are on the MASC calendar for workshops\/forums in the future.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>February 21 &amp; 22, 2008 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maritimeawards.ca\/forum2008\/\">Victoria&#8217;s Wastewater: Land-Based Treatment &#8230; or Something Better? <\/a><\/li>\n<li>On World Oceans Day June 8, 2007, MASC opened the first day of a dynamic two-day <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maritimeawards.ca\/OGCWC\/OGCWC.html\">workshop on Oceans Governance on Canada&#8217;s West Coast<\/a>, bringing together a diverse group of people from governments, non-government organizations, industry and research centres.<\/li>\n<li>25 March 2006 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maritimeawards.ca\/ForumBC_waters2006.htm\">B.C Waters &#8211; Developments and Reflections<\/a><\/li>\n<li>23-25 February 2006 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maritimeawards.ca\/pdfs\/Arctic_Ocean_Meeting_of_Experts_2006.pdf\">Arctic Ocean Meeting of Experts<\/a> sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">18-21 March 2004 &#8211; MASC Lawyers Workshop<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">22 February 2003 (St. John\u2019s, Nfld.) &#8211; MASC\/OMRN Symposium, Governors Strong, Johnston<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">4 February 2003 &#8211; MASC joint initiative with the Ocean Management Research Network (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.maritimeawards.ca\/OMRN\/index.html\">OMRN<\/a>) to launch internet-based development of research briefs and a research agenda addressing human use of ocean and coastal resources<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">8-9 December 2002 &#8211; MASC delegation participates in Canadian Institute Conference, Governors David Strong and Andrew Walls<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">21-22 October 2002 (Halifax) &#8211; 2nd MASC\/MAP Symposium \u2013 Energy Issues (Douglas Johnston, Governor)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">17 October &#8211; MASC organizes evening Dunsmuir workshop for industry consultation session with the Ministerial Advisory Council on Oceans (MACO).
